Julie Shayne joins roundtable on feminist writing and publishing
The president of the Southeast Women鈥檚 Studies Association (SEWSA) invited IAS faculty member, and Gender, Women, & Sexuality Studies coordinator, Julie Shayne to speak on a roundtable called 鈥淓merging Scholars: A Writing and Publishing Roundtable Organizers.鈥 The invitation followed Shayne鈥檚 presentation at the Gender Studies in Georgia conference last fall where she had presented on .
Shayne鈥檚 presentation, 鈥淩eflections on Feminist Writing,鈥 traced her writing and publishing trajectory as they mirrored her professional paths. She explained how starting on the tenure track limited the way she wrote and once she found her professional home at UW Bothell, on the teaching track in IAS, , she felt she could write the way she always intended to. She concluded her presentation with what she called 鈥渁dvice-ish鈥 to the emerging scholars in attendance, suggesting questions they should reflect on as they chart out their professional paths.
